Anne the last touring elephant has packed her trunk

The last touring elephant in Britain has been banned from appearing at a circus after objections by animal welfare campaigners.

Anne was scheduled to appear at the Bobby Roberts Super Circus in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, during its six-day run which began yesterday.

Business travel lifts budget hotels

The business traveller’s search for cheaper hotel accommodation has helped to fuel a near doubling of the UK budget hotel market since 2000, pushing its turn-over beyond £1bn.

Whitbread’s Premier Travel Inn and Dubai International Capital’s Travelodge have provided much of the supply growth, the number of extra rooms increasing by about 8,000 rooms a year on average so far this decade.

Travel group says strict rules are costing the U.S.

The United States is losing international travelers and tourist dollars because of strict practices put in place after the terrorist attacks of 2001, the head of the Travel Industry Association said Monday.

Roger Dow told the Greater Houston Partnership that tougher security measures are prompting travelers to choose to travel to other countries.
